His Eminence Metropolitan of Patras, Chrysostomos (real name Christos Sklifas), was born in the village of Loukas in Tripoli in 1958. His father (Ethymios Sklifas) was a priest. He finished the Primary School in Loukas and the six-form High School in Tripoli. He is a Graduate of the Pedagogical Academy of Tripoli and the Theological School of the University of Athens. He was declared as a Monk at the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos of Varsi, Tripoli.In 1981 he was ordained as a Deacon and in 1983 as an Elder by the Blessed Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria Mr. Theokletos (Filippaios) and appointed Preacher of the Holy Metropolis of Mantineia and Kynouria. He served as a Primary Education Teacher and as a Professor at the Pedagogical Academy of Tripoli for eight years. He also taught at S.E.L.D.E. and in P.E.K. of Tripoli.For seventeen years he was the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos in Mantineia, which he took over when it was in ruins and renovated it from scratch and manned it with a pious Brotherhood of Monks. In 1993, he was hired at the Offices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece where, alongside his duties in the Holy Diocese of Mantineia and Kynouria, he served initially as a Codifier and then as Secretary of the Synodal Press and Secular Life Committees.
Since 2000 he served as its Second Secretary and from 2003 until his promotion to the position of Metropolitan of Patras, as Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod.
He was elected as Metropolitan of Patras on February 19, 2005 by the Seventh Hierarchy of the Church of Greece and was ordained the followingday in February 20 in the Archibishop Church of Athens by Christodoulo , the Beatitude Archbishop of Athens and all Greece,supported by a multitude of High Priests. He was enthroned in Patras and in the Hieron of the Holy Apostle Andrew on April 2, 2005.
